Acer Aspire One 532h-2326 Netbook

The Acer Aspire One 532h-2326 is a 10.1-inch netbook that does not stand out from the crowd, but is still a good portable computer in its own right.  It offers good performance and a standard feature set at a competitive price.  You can find the Aspire One for around $350. It comes with a one-year warranty on parts and labor.  Technical support is available via telephone or through Acer’s website.

Like several other netbooks, the Aspire One is powered by a 1.6 GHz Intel Atom N450 processor with 512 MB of L2 cache. This processor gives the Aspire One a performance similar to its competitors that use it as well.  Don’t expect any blazing speeds, but you can perform most mainstream tasks like web surfing, instant messaging, and the like without much of a hassle — and that is about all you can reasonably expect out of a netbook.

Multitasking is helped by 1 GB of DDR2 SDRAM.  A nice-sized 250 GB hard drive is on board to provide good storage space. Graphics are supported by an Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 3150 card. Battery performance, as expected, is very good on the Aspire One, as its six-cell battery provides an estimated ten hours of usage when fully charged. This makes the system an ideal travel companion.  Microsoft Windows 7 Starter is pre-installed as the operating system.

Moving past the basics, we find integrated 802.11n Wi-Fi giving you the ability to access the fastest wireless networks. You can chat with friends using the Aspire One’s built-in web cam and microphone via Skype or other messaging services.

There is also a media card reader that’s useful when you want to transfer data from devices like digital cameras to the netbook. Formats supported by the reader include Memory Sticks, SD cards, and more.

The main design advantage of a netbook, and the Acer Aspire One in particular, is portability. Measuring only 10.2 inches wide by 7.3 inches tall by 1 inch thick and weighing just 2.8 pounds, this is a computer that you can take with you wherever you go. It comes in a nice Onyx Blue color scheme that gives it a unique look. Just beware that if you hate fingerprints, you will need to bring along a cloth to wipe down all the smudges that the One’s glossy finish will acquire.

Once opened, a 10.1-inch display with 1,024×600 resolution is revealed. The display is surrounded by a glossy black bezel and has a matte finish to prevent glare. The Aspire One’s keyboard has wide and flat keys that are great for typing.

The touch pad is not quite as good, with its smallish size and glossy finish making it a bit uncomfortable to use. It does support some multi-touch gestures, though.  The wrist rests are covered in a glossy black finish that, like the lid, acquire fingerprints easily. Rounding out the system’s design is its connectivity on its sides, which includes a VGA port, three USB ports, and an Ethernet port.

Free from many frills, the Acer Aspire One 532h-2326 is still worth a hard look for potential netbook shoppers. Its price tag is reasonable, and it provides competitive performance. The keyboard is also easy to use, and better than the standard small keyboards found on many other netbooks.
