Bukittinggi, A City with Many Destinations

Have you been in Bukittinggi? If you haven’t, I’ll ask you a simply question, have you heard about this city? Yap, Bukittingi is a small city with many tourism destinations. Mountains, valleys, historical and cultural tourism as well as a place for those who are interested to foods, gifts and unique events.

I always remember the streets of this city where we can see the gift stores both sides of the street, going to Pasar Atas where you can find merchandises, unique gifts for special one, foods and beverages and many more. There is also a zoo in this city, although it is not so big, but it can fulfill our coruisity about tropical fauna, the zoo is placed in Taman Bundo Kanduang, also in the center of the city. As we know, Indonesia had been colonised by Dutch and Japan formerly, and the atmosphere of colonialization still can be found in this city through the appearance of its building such as Jam Gadang, it is a big clock in the heart of the city, built in 1926, and the construction of this clock adapted from Dutch model.

bukittinggiAnother place or building that represent the historical event in this country is Lobang Jepang or Japanese Tunnel. This tunnel had been built by Japan for defense in facing the world war II. Dutch also had a fort there, called Fort de Kock. This fort built in 1825, and as the bridge to go from Fort de Kock to Taman Bundo Kanduang we can use Limpapeh bridge. On this bridge, we will see the view of the city and the beauty of Mount. Marapi. Then, let’s go to the wonderful view of Sianok Valley or the local used to call the valley as Ngarai Sianok. You can walk about 30 minutes from the center of the city to Panorama, and here you should buy a ticket, don’t worry the ticket for every destinations in Bukittinggi is not expensive, even if you get there, you will realize that the cost for every destinations is so cheap.

In Panorama, you will find the view of the valley, feeding the monkeys, and explore the Japanese Tunnel. Even though the tunnel had so many rooms, but don’t worry to be lost, since it had the map and lamps along the tunnel, even if you don’t hire the guide, you still can rely on yourself. I promise you, its easy to explore the tunnel. It’s getting late and you need a nice room to stay, to take a rest and sleep on the comfort bed. You can choose from the lowest to the highest price, in the big hotels or the small one.

The cheapest one I’ve tried is about 50000 rupiahs for one night with two beds. You can find also the big room with the bathroom inside. Don’t want to stay in the lower price hotels? You can stay in the Hills hotel, that’s all your choice, but the point is you have to try all destinations in Bukittinggi, since it is the city with many tourism destinations. Good journey!
